Culture

While we take our civil engineering work seriously, we also know it’s important to have some fun along the way.  We enjoy a casual, social work environment at HDG.  We like to call it an alternative culture.  We don’t wear suits, we don’t clock in and out, and we don’t micromanage.  We do work hard, bring our dogs (and cats) to work occasionally, and play on our shuffleboard table when time allows.  Because our work is challenging, we truly enjoy that our environment is not.   We believe that work and fun need to remain connected, and we set aside time each month for something fun in addition to focusing on technical expertise and client needs.  Our space is fun, too.  HDG is located in a rejuvenated warehouse building in the Central Eastside, right next to the railroad line where we can hear the familiar whistle and rumble of the trains working their way down the tracks every day.

Values

While we value hard work, a good product, and a little fun along the way, we also value the strong working relationships we have and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from these.  As such, our values are centered around maintaining and building these relationships, both with current and new clients as well as with each other.  Here’s a snapshot of the way we do things around here:

  • Maintain a strong work ethic
  • Be flexible and adaptable
  • Commit to doing the right thing
  • Practice honesty and integrity
  • Build relationships
  • Be a good listener
  • Be respectful and kind, helpful, friendly, and approachable
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Be a team player
  • Focus on performance
  • Innovate
  • Provide amazing service!
