Matt Hlavaty, PE
A Project Engineer at Humber Design Group, Matt is responsible for close coordination with clients as well as communication and collaboration with design team members to establish site design and carry it through to completion. He actively participates in design team and jurisdictional meetings and is actively involved in project construction services including site observation services and communication with contractors, architects, and other consultants during the construction phase. Matt’s expertise covers all elements of site design, including grading, erosion control, utility placement, calculations and design for stormwater management, and public frontage improvements. He has worked on a range of project types including K-12 and higher educational facilities, multi- and single-family housing, market rate and affordable housing, commercial and industrial facilities, and public facilities.
Matt’s background includes six years in the geotechnical field before switching to civil engineering. This experience gives Matt a deeper understanding of project design and construction and adds depth to his knowledge and skills in grading and stormwater management for difficult sites.
Matt received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon and Georgia.

As a Project Engineer, Matt enjoys the challenges and rewards of carrying a project from concept to completion and ultimately seeing the completed facility integrated into the community. When he isn’t busy engineering solutions for our clients, Matt enjoys taking in the full spectrum of outdoor activities available in the Pacific Northwest, from hiking and camping to snowboarding and soccer. He also enjoys playing guitar, reading, and brewing beer.
